One of the most popular MMO games in the world, although not as popular as Ragnarok Online (in my point of view), Dragon Nest will soon go to the big screens. The animated movie, Dragon Nest: Warrior's Dawn is set to hit theaters in China on July 2014. If you got no idea what the hell is Dragon Nest, then head over to paragraph after the break. Otherwise, continue on the next paragraph.
Dragon Nest is an action dungeon crawler MMORPG developed by South Korean game studio, Eyedentity Games. First published in South Korea in early 2010, Dragon Nest quickly gained popularity due to its unique control style. It uses a non-targeting combat system ensuring that players have complete control over every single one of their character's movements. It can be said that Dragon Nest is one of the pioneers of the non-targeting system which is widely used in other MMORPGs nowadays. In September 2010, one of China's biggest game companies, Shanda Games acquired Eyedentity Games, thus making the Korean studio part of Shanda Games.
Dragon Nest: Warrior's Dawn is an animated movie created Shanda Games in collaboration with Chinese animation studio Mili Pictures. The animated movie is produced by Bill Borden, most famous for producing Disney's High School Musical. The movie follows the journey of a young warrior in training who will be accompanied by various other class characters from the game.
What's mind-blowing about this movie is NOT the fact that it is based on Dragon Nest, BUT the fact that Dragon Nest: Warrior's Dawn is currently featured in Cannes Film Festival 2014, in Cannes, France. Hardly an animated movie can get featured in one of the most, if not the most prestigious film festivals in the world.
Dragon Nest: Warrior's Dawn will play in theaters in China starting July 31st 2014. It is rumored to be available across the world in about two months after its Chinese release date.
