Good news for all Kombatants. Netherrealm Studios and Warner Bros Interactive has officially announced the next Mortal Kombat game simply called Mortal Kombat X (no, it reads "ten", not "X" literally).
The game is slated for a 2015 release with no exact release date as of yet. According to the official statement by Netherrealm Studios, Mortal Kombat X is "fueled by next-gen technology, it combinescombines unparalleled, cinematic presentation with dynamic gameplay to create an unprecedented Kombat experience." Judging by that statement alone, it seems like Mortal Kombat X is designated only for next-gen consoles. No official statement has been made yet for this matter.
Based on the trailer above, it seems like it is actually made from gameplay footage as it has that "player controlled" feeling. A number of key features were shown off, including the return of personal weapons as well as environmental interaction that allows you to rip branches off trees and beat your opponents with them. The video also shows off the X-Ray attacks introduced in the 2011 reboot of the franchise, which gruesomely depict body parts getting broken and bruised.
So, there's still no news about Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter, but this sure is good news for Mortal Kombat fans.
